The Benefits of Combining Satellite and Drone Data

Earlier this month the DroneBase team was delighted to announce a partnership with Airbus Aerial to deliver the world's first multi-source solution for aerial imagery and data.

At its heart, this is a partnership with the potential to change the way companies think about aerial data. We're incorporating satellites, drones and everything in between to improve how organizations make decisions and the quality of those decisions.

DroneBase is bringing to the table a network of tens of thousands of pilots and the combined experience of more than 100,000 commercial missions. As well as the ability to capture drone imagery of any U.S. address within 48-72 hours, depending on the airspace.

That network will complement Airbus Aerial’s existing services, which include aerospace technology and software that offers data analysis using drones, satellites, high altitude aircraft and other sources.

So why combine drone and satellite imagery in the first place?

The right data for your business needs

Ultimately this partnership is about providing choice and flexibility. The needs of organizations using aerial data - from energy companies and utility providers to agriculture and insurance - are dynamic.

Satellite imaging can offer a high-resolution macro view; drones are ideal for more detailed data gathering of smaller areas.

For example, when responding to a natural disaster, local authorities and telecommunications companies might only require the latter to get systems back online as quickly as possible.

Insurers might want to harness both drones and satellites to build a broader picture of how things are shaping up.

Combining satellites and drones in this way empowers organizations to choose the right tool for the job, or in some cases, a combination of the two in order to adapt to dynamic situations.

One source, endless data, more efficiency

Previously, many companies will have had to rely on a variety of separate sources to gather and analyse their aerial data. It goes without saying that putting those capabilities in the hands of a single provider will simplify the process.

The importance of this agility can't be understated. Our partnership with Airbus Aerial gives organizations access to a truly global and flexible solution. Not to mention a more efficient way to integrate aerial imagery into everyday operations.

As Dan Burton, DroneBase CEO, explains, “Airbus Aerial has built upon Airbus Intelligence’s history of being the premier satellite imaging service in the world with unrivalled access to the most comprehensive range of commercial Earth observation data available, covering any point on Earth at least once a day."

“With the addition of DroneBase’s drone operations expertise, together we can provide a true one-stop shop for companies to acquire all levels of aerial data and insight for various industries.”
